Anatase nanoparticles boundaries resulting from titanium tetrachloride hydrolysis
2017
An important factor that governs solar energy transformation into electrical or chemical energy, when using nanoparticles-based devices, is the spatial location of traps limiting electron transport. Evidences have been presented indicating that the electron diffusion is strongly influenced by nanoparticle boundaries, whose characteristics depend on the particles preparation. In the present work we have studied the role of hydrated excess proton structures in the formation of anatase nanoparticles boundaries in samples prepared by TiCl4 hydrolysis at low temperature and strong acidic conditions. The samples, constituted by anatase nanocrystals but, mainly, by amorphous titania, are studied b…
Dialkyl titanium complexes that contain a sulfur-linked bis(phenolato) ligand:
2002
Abstract The sulfur-linked bis(phenol) 2,2′-thiobis(2-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol), tbmpH2, reacted cleanly with titanium tetrachloride to give the orange titanium dichloro complex [Ti(tbmp)Cl2]2 in virtually quantitative yield. Reaction of the dichloro complex [Ti(tbmp)Cl2]2 with methyllithium at low temperature gave the unexpectedly thermally robust, yellow dimethyl complex [Ti(tbmp)Me2]. The reaction of the dichloro complex with benzyl Grignard reagent in pentane afforded the highly crystalline dibenzyl complex [Ti(tbmp)(CH2Ph)2] as a 1,4-dioxane adduct. The single crystal X-ray crystallography revealed a centrosymmetric 1,4-dioxane-bridged molecule that contains two fragments containing s…
Herstellung von 1,5‐Cyclooctadiin und 1,3,5,7‐Cyclooctatetraen aus 1,5‐Cyclooctadien
1994
Preparation of 1,5-Cyclooctadiyne and 1,3,5,7-Cyclooctatetraene from 1,5-Cyclooctadiene Bromination of 1,5-cyclooctadiene (1) and stepwise dehydro-bromination first with KOtBu and then with KOtBu/18-crown-6 yields 1,5-cyclooctadiyne (5). A prolonged interaction of the base causes a complete transformation to cyclooc-tatetraene (6). Diyne 5 and even more the intermediate enyne 4 are highly reactive dienophiles. The cycloadducts 10–14 formed with 1,3-cyclohexadiene, carbon disulfide, and tetraphenylcyclopentadienone were isolated and characterized. Treatment of 5 with titanium tetrachloride induces a vigorous polymerization.
Titanium and zirconium complexes that contain a tridentate bis(phenolato) ligand of the [OOO]-type
2003
Abstract The oxygen-linked bis(phenol) 2-oxapropanediyl-1,3-bis(2-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol), [OOO]H2, was prepared in good yield by the condensation of 2-tert-butyl-6-hydroxymethyl-4-methylphenol at 155 °C. This bis(phenol) reacted cleanly with titanium tetrachloride to give the orange titanium dichloro complex [OOO]TiCl2 in virtually quantitative yield. The solubility in pentane indicates a monomeric structure for [OOO]TiCl2 in solution. The reaction of titanium tetra(isopropoxide) gave the di(isopropoxy) complex [OOO]Ti(OiPr)2 which also adopts a monomeric structure of C2v-symmetry in solution. The reaction of the dichloro complex [OOO]TiCl2 with benzyl Grignard reagent in diethyl ether …
Atomic layer deposition of LixTiyOz thin films
2013
Atomic layer deposition (ALD) was employed to deposit ternary films of LixTiyOz. The film growth at a deposition temperature of 225 °C was studied using both titanium tetra-isoropoxide (Ti(OiPr)4) and titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) as titanium precursors. Lithium tert-butoxide (LiOtBu) was applied as the lithium source and water was used as the oxygen source for all metal precursors. The type of titanium precursor chosen strongly affected film growth: with TiCl4 the resulting LixTiyOz films were highly air-sensitive and the lithium concentration was low, whereas with Ti(OiPr)4 the films were relatively stable in air and with a lithium content which was easily controlled over a wide range. F…
Characterization of ALD grown Ti x Al y N and Ti x Al y C thin films
2017
Abstract Atomic layer deposition (ALD) was used to grow Ti x Al y N and Ti x Al y C thin films using trimethylaluminum (TMA), titanium tetrachloride and ammonia as precursors. Deposition temperature was varied between 325 °C and 500 °C. Films were also annealed in vacuum and N 2 -atmosphere at 600–1000 °C. Wide range of characterization methods was used including time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis (ToF-ERDA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), X-ray reflectometry (XRR), Raman spectroscopy, ellipsometry, helium ion microscopy (HIM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and 4-point probe measurement for resistivity. Deposited films were roughly 100 nm thick and contained mainly desired elemen…
Preparation and photoactivity of nanostructured TiO2 particles obtained by hydrolysis of TiCl4
2005
This work reports the preparation of nanostructured polycrystalline TiO2 photocatalysts obtained by hydrolysis of TiCl4 in very mild conditions. Several samples were prepared as suspensions or colloidal dispersions by using TiCl4/H2O volume ratios ranging between 1:1 and 1:100. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction analysis, specific surface area determination, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. 4-Nitrophenol photodegradation was used as probe reaction to test the photoactivity of the catalysts. Some samples revealed a photoactivity higher than that of Degussa P25 in similar experimental conditions and the most photoactive one was that prepared …
Synthesis and structural characterization of titanium complexes containing a sulfinyl-bridged bis(phenolato) ligand
1998
Abstract Titanium complexes containing the novel tridentate 2,2′-sulfinylbis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenoxo) ligand (sibmp) were synthesized and characterized. Treatment of titanium tetra-iso-propoxide with 2,2′-sulfinylbis(6-tert-4-methylphenol) (sibmpH2) in 1:1 molar ratio afforded red-orange, sparingly soluble di-iso-propoxo derivative [Ti(sibmp)(O-i-Pr)2]2·0.5 Et2O. The single-crystal structure analysis was performed and revealed a dimeric centrosymmetric structure with a planar Ti2O2 core. The titanium center is approximately octahedral with a SO function intramolecularly coordinated at the titanium center. Treatment of sibmpH2 with titanium tetra-iso-propoxide in 2:1 molar ratio gave y…
Synthesis of all-syn Functionalized Triphenylene Ketals
2011
The stereoselective synthesis of triphenylene ketals offers access to unique scaffolds. For a good performance in supramolecular applications an all-syn orientation of the functional groups is essential. The oxidative trimerization of catechol ketals by molybdenum pentachloride or mixtures with titanium tetrachloride leads to a template-directed formation. Several heterocyclic moieties are suitable for this transformation. A template-directed isomerization of anti, anti, syn isomers to the desired C 3 -symmetric derivative was demonstrated in two cases.
